Assessing Writers: Chapters 3-7
I have been having trouble posting to the blog as blogspot has been changing things over. I know you have now read alot of material- but I would love for you to share what ideas have stood out to you that you would like to discuss with your colleagues and what ideas would you like to include in your work with writing this year?

Chapter 3, “Assessing Students as Initiators of Writing” was filled with many ideas that I want to implement this year. One idea that stood out to me was the student calendars for unit planning—what a great idea! I think that I could begin to implement this in the middle of the year. Providing the students with a calendar, they will take on more accountability for envisioning where they will be in the writing process up until the celebration, or deadline. This builds on their independence with the planning that they do as writers.
Anderson also referenced a table of contents for finished pieces. This would be extremely helpful for the students to reflect on themselves as writers. In addition, I would be able to use it to assess student writing, in terms of their purpose for writing specific pieces and productivity in the workshop. By the end of the year, students have folders filled with writing, but having the table of contents would be a meaningful way for them to reflect on the writing they have done throughout the year.
