I read the author's comments about his book. He has some great ideas for assessment. I liked his idea for a 3-5 minute formative assessment time with other teachers. A collaborative effort is a great way to help us guide our instruction and without knowing the author of a piece, we can talk about how to better our students' writing openly and honestly.
